The Good: Amaranthus has a beautiful draping effect that spills out of centerpieces or bouquets. Highly textured with beautiful cascade movement. We find that a little goes a long way so it's a great accent element.
The Bad: The foliage attached to Amaranthus is often too 'chewy' and ugly to use so we almost ALWAYS snip it off. The stems can be very large and heavy to work with, and it does not have a very long vase-life. It can often be inconsistent in length so it's not uncommon to cut the hanging part down (technically, not a bad thing)
- Give the stems a fresh cut, and place in cool water.
- Remove leaves below the waterline.
- Snip off all undesired foliage, which is common for Amaranthus.
Amaranthus is considered a 'Texture Flower'. Based on our design ratio suggestions here's our quantity recommendations:
- Bridal Bouquet: 1/2 bunch
- Maids: 1/4 bunch
- Bouts: N/A
- Corsages: N/A
- Centerpieces: 1/3 bunch
- Large Arrangements: 1-2 bunches
Flower Moxie reserves the right to make changes or substitutions. All substitutions are only done as a last resort, and only when the reasons for doing so are reasonable and genuine. For example, if a flower becomes unavailable (off-crop), incorrect color, or not in good condition to grace a wedding function we will substitute a flower that has a similar color and price-point.
Acceptable Subs: Amaranthus is difficult to sub because it's very unusual in appearance. We would pick a textured element that matches your overall vibe and palette.
