The Epipremnum aureum 'Pearls and Jade', a refined, patented variety, stands out with its artistic foliage and compact growth. Each leaf, smaller than those of traditional Pothos, is a true work of art, blending touches of green, creamy white, and silvery grey. It brings a touch of subtle elegance and light to any space, perfect for plant collections or sophisticated decor.

Characteristics

  • Foliage: Its evergreen, heart-shaped leaves feature a unique and irregular variegation. The colouring consists of well-defined green areas, large splashes of creamy white mainly on the edges, and delicate speckles of silvery grey.
  • Light: To maintain its vibrant variegation, place it in bright, indirect light. Good light is essential to bring out the contrasts in its foliage.
  • Habit: It has a naturally bushy and trailing habit. As its growth is more contained, it remains dense and compact, making it ideal for smaller spaces.
  • Growth: Its growth is considered slow to moderate, much less rapid than other Pothos varieties like 'Neon' or 'Golden'.
  • Humidity: It tolerates the standard ambient humidity of a typical home very well (40-60%).
  • Potting Mix: Use a well-draining, airy potting mix for indoor plants that is rich in organic matter.
  • Temperature: It thrives in a temperature range of 18°C to 29°C and should be protected from cold drafts.
  • Watering: Allow the top half of the potting mix to dry out between waterings. It is resilient and tolerates slight neglect well.
  • Resistances: Very resistant to drought and not very susceptible to common pests or diseases.

Use

  • Types of Use: Its compact size makes it perfect for desks, nightstands, or shelves. It is also stunning in a decorative pot or a hanging basket where its foliage can be admired up close.
  • Decorative Benefits: The detailed variegation of each leaf adds a rich and sophisticated visual texture. Like other Pothos, it helps to purify the ambient air.

Care

  • Fertilizing: Fertilize with a diluted indoor plant fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring-summer).
  • Pruning: Pinch the stems as needed to maintain a dense shape and encourage branching. Remove any all-green leaves if you wish to preserve the dominant variegation.
  • Repotting: Repot only when the plant is root-bound, about every 2 to 3 years, due to its slower growth.

I wrote Jude for my twelve-year-old self, who never saw a brown girl in a book who was proud of her family and where she came from. A brown girl with hopes and dreams of her own.” The voice Jasmine found for her main character, Jude, is astonishingly authentic, wonderfully observant, and filled with love and hope and strength. Jude’s voice combined with the free verse blew me away for its lack of pretension, naturalness, and profound beauty. I was worried that the free verse would feel forced, especially coming out of a twelve year old’s mouth, but instead it’s surprisingly organic and easy to read. ⁣ ⁣ This is a Syrian refugee story that reveals what should be obvious: that refugees want what everyone wants: to be happy, to be safe, and to be themselves. ⁣ ⁣Jude’s story is told with humor and heart and understanding and joy. It’s possibly my favorite book I’ve read so far this year.

This book is amazing. I purchased for a reading competition but quickly fell in love. Highly recommend for a middle school level student. Written in verse but easy to read.

This gorgeous MG novel in verse is a MUST READ!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Words cannot adequately express how much Jordanian-American author Jasmine Warga’s novel “Other Words for Home” means to me. Growing up, I never read stories about people like me or families like my own because they simply didn’t exist. Books with Arab and/or Arab-American characters, being wholly human, navigating issues of identity and belonging, interrogating what “home” means were never written. Too bad. I’m elated that that’s changing, though, and that there are Arab-Americans who are writing these stories *with such immense skill and heart.* This is the first middle grade novel I’ve read in literally decades and it just encouraged me to order many more. It is poetic and hopeful and so thoughtfully written. I can barely remember the last time I loved a character as much as I love brave and precious Jude. I cried and cheered many times along this journey. Seriously, if you work with middle graders, have middle graders, or are a lover of children’s literature yourself—YOU MUST check out this gorgeous novel in verse. The only downside (and it's a big one) is that it ends.

One of the best books I have read this year!
Format: Hardcover
This is a beautiful novel-in-verse that will stay with me for a very long time. It is a must read for anyone middle grade or older. What I loved: - The Poetry- intriguing similes and metaphors, emotions captured on the page, powerful language - The Perspective- I appreciated that the protagonist was not from Aleppo, but from a vacation town on the sea in Syria. This shows a different perspective than I have seen, but one that is equally as important. Jude and her mother then come to stay with her uncle in America, and again, the perspective was different than other "refugee" stories but equally powerful. - The People- Jude is protagonist to cheer for, however, there are so many dynamic, diverse characters in this story. #LitReviewCrew
