Care Guide for Philodendron 'Golden Dragon'
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun that scorches leaves
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged; allow the top layer to dry slightly
- Humidity: Enjoys high humidity but tolerates normal indoor levels; add a humidifier in dry climates
- Temperature: Ideal range is 18 – 27 °C; protect from drafts and heating vents
- Soil: Airy, well-draining mix with perlite and orchid bark for healthy roots
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid feed every 4 – 6 weeks throughout the growing season
Common Issues and Fixes
- Yellowing leaves: Usually from overwatering or poor drainage; let soil dry slightly before watering again
- Drooping foliage: A sign of underwatering or low humidity; increase watering frequency and boost air moisture
- Pests: Watch for mites, mealybugs, or fungus gnats; treat with neem oil, insecticidal soap, or biological controls
- Root rot: Avoid waterlogged soil; prune affected roots and repot in a fresh, well-draining mix
Additional Growing Tips
- Placement: Choose a bright, filtered-light location away from direct sun
- Support: Provide a moss pole or stake to encourage upright growth and larger leaves
- Pruning: Trim leggy growth and remove yellow leaves to maintain a compact, bushy form
Etymology
