Anthurium Crystallinum is an epiphytic perennial native to the rainforests of Central and South America. Its prominent features include large, velvety, heart-shaped leaves and striking white veins. The flower spathes are thin and have a slight red-purple tinge.
This specimen thrives best in bright but indirect sunlight. As it likes moisture, you need to water and mist it several times a week. An airy potting mix that retains water well will help the plant to flourish. Go for a mixture of sand, sphagnum moss, and pine bark. Alternatively, you can use coconut coir mixed with peat moss. Adding in chunky bits such as gravel or charcoal also contributes to drainage and root aeration.
Although its foliage is the main attraction, you can encourage flowering by ensuring that your fertilizer has phosphorus, nitrogen, and magnesium elements. Feed the plant with an organic, slow-release fertilizer during springtime.
Anthurium Crystallinum grows an additional 1.6 feet in height every 2 to 5 years. Its leaves can grow up to 60 inches. You will need to repot the plant every 1 to 2 years when it becomes rootbound. Repotting is best done in spring, summer, or early fall.
