Fafard orchid potting mix is formulated to recreate the natural growing conditions of epiphytic orchids. Its composition, based on coconut fibers, pine bark, charcoal, and perlite, ensures a structured, stable, and highly draining substrate, essential for healthy root development.
This mixture promotes optimal air circulation around the roots, limiting excess moisture that causes rot. It thus supports balanced growth and regular flowering, while also facilitating watering control in indoor or greenhouse cultivation.
How to use
Use when repotting, ideally after flowering. Gently remove the old substrate, eliminate any damaged roots, then place the plant in a well-draining pot, distributing the potting soil around the roots without compacting it excessively.
Water thoroughly after repotting to evenly moisten the substrate, then allow to drain completely. Adjust watering frequency according to the light, temperature, and ventilation of the growing environment.
Plants concerned
Suitable for most orchids grown indoors and in greenhouses: Phalaenopsis, Cattleyas, Dendrobiums, Vandas, Oncidiums and Paphiopedilums. Ideal for growing in perforated pots, openwork containers or hanging baskets.
Features and benefits
Open structure
The combination of bark and coconut fibers creates interstices that promote root oxygenation, essential for nutrient absorption.
Effective drainage
Perlite and charcoal improve water flow and limit compaction, reducing the risk of root asphyxiation.
Controlled water retention
The substrate retains the necessary moisture without excess, facilitating precise watering management.
pH adjusted
Formulated with a neutral pH compatible with the needs of orchids, promoting optimal assimilation of nutrients.
Stability of the mixture
Organic and inorganic materials ensure good durability over time, maintaining the aerated structure between repottings.
