Tillandsia Xerographica – All Hail the King!
The Tillandsia Xerographica, also known as Xeros or the King of Air Plants, adds a majestic focal point with zero soil fuss. They are native to Southern Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala - but you can find yours here at Bloombox Club!
Plant Personality & Aesthetic Appeal
The Tillandsia Xerographica forms a starburst rosette up to 60cm across, its broad leaves tapering outward and covered in fine silvery trichomes that shimmer in light. The sculptural silhouette works beautifully in boho macrame hangers, minimalist glass globes, or mounted on driftwood. Its air-only habit means you can suspend it as a pendant, perch it on a decorative tile or nestle it in a shell dish. Wherever you place it - on floating shelves, bedside tables or entryway consoles, its metallic sheen and living form command attention.
Growth Habit & Size Potential
This air plant grows slowly to moderate speed, forming rosettes that reach 50 to 60 cm wide when kept indoors. After maturity, it may send up a flower spike 30 to 60 cm tall, crowned with tubular pink blooms. Post-bloom, it can produce offsets at its base, which you can gently remove once they are a third of the parent’s size to propagate new plants. No pot or pole is required to grow—simply mount it on bark, stone, or any fixture for an ever-changing living sculpture.
Light & Location Needs
The Tillandsia Xerographica thrives in bright, indirect light and tolerates several hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun. In lower light, its growth slows, but it remains healthy. Windows with sheer curtains are ideal, and it also brightens covered balconies or sunlit bathrooms. Do rotate occasionally to ensure even light exposure. Avoid harsh midday rays to prevent leaf burn. Whether indoors or sheltered outdoors, it adapts to most bright locations.
Care Level & Maintenance Tips
The King Air Plant is easy to care for. Like the other plants in its species, all the watering it needs is misting two to three times per week or by fully submerging for five to ten minutes every 10 to 14 days. Just set an alarm so you won’t forget your soaks. Though no soil drainage is needed, you need to make sure to remove excess water during your soaking days. Give it good air flow and feed it during spring and summer (bromeliad or air-plant formula diluted to half strength).
Spaces Fit For A King Air Plant
As with many other plants, caring for the Tillandsia Xerographica fosters proven mental health benefits, such as stress reduction, improved concentration, and a mindful connection to nature. Misting or soaking sessions become calming rituals that help break digital overload. Think of it as no-screen time. Its floating form draws the eye upward, adding visual intrigue to work desks, meditation spots, or bedside tables. The occasional bloom spike delivers a thrilling reward, boosting mood and motivation. It’s like a little gift for giving your King Air Plant proper care.

The pink is darker than the image portrays
Color: Infinite Pink
The pink color is significantly darker than the image shows. It’s like a dark red rose color in real life, not so much a hot pink like the listing shows
