Epiphyllum anguliger (Fishbone Cactus) | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Pet-safe
Summary: The Fishbone Cactus brings a touch of tropical whimsy with its dramatic zigzag foliage and easy-care nature – perfect for shelves, hanging planters, or trailing gracefully in bright European homes.
✨ Why You'll Love the Fishbone Cactus
- Unique wavy, fishbone-shaped stems that trail elegantly
- Fast-growing and low-maintenance – ideal for busy plant lovers
- Produces stunning nocturnal white flowers when mature
- Pet-safe and non-toxic, perfect for homes with cats and dogs
- Thrives as a hanging plant or on high shelves for a jungle vibe
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates some gentle direct morning sun. Too much direct light may cause leaf scorch. Ideal for east or west-facing windows in German apartments.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil are dry. As a rainforest cactus, it prefers moderate humidity (over 50%) but adapts well to normal indoor conditions.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining cactus or orchid mix amended with perlite for airflow. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to encourage healthy root development and trailing growth.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Non-toxic and safe for pets and children – a worry-free choice for your indoor jungle.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Propagate easily from stem cuttings. Allow cut ends to callous for a day before placing in moist soil or water to root.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
May flower in late summer to autumn with large, fragrant night-blooming flowers if kept in bright conditions. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.
🐛 Common Issues
Watch for mealybugs or root rot if overwatered. Ensure good drainage and avoid letting roots sit in water.
🧬 Botanical Background
Native to Mexican rainforests, Epiphyllum anguliger is an epiphytic cactus that naturally grows along tree branches, gaining its playful fishbone name from its deeply lobed zigzag stems.
