Opuntia ‘Mona Lisa’ (Cutting) is a striking prickly pear cactus valued for its sculptural pads and bold ornamental appeal. This cutting offers an easy and rewarding way to propagate your own Opuntia, making it ideal for collectors, xeriscape gardens, and drought-tolerant landscapes. With proper care, it roots readily and develops into a strong, upright plant with distinctive paddle-shaped segments.
Opuntia ‘Mona Lisa’ features flat, oval pads with a clean, architectural look that adds texture and form to any cactus collection. As it matures, it can branch freely, creating a bold, layered silhouette. Flowering typically occurs on mature plants, producing showy blooms followed by small fruits, though flowers are uncommon on young cuttings.
Care for Opuntia ‘Mona Lisa’ Cuttings is simple and beginner-friendly. Allow the cutting to callus before planting in a well-draining cactus mix, water sparingly only after roots establish, and provide full sun for best growth.
Indoors, the Opuntia Mona Lisa thrives in bright indirect light or several hours of gentle direct sunlight near a south- or west-facing window.
Outdoors, it can be grown year-round in USDA zones 9–11, where temperatures stay above freezing.
It prefers temperature ranges between 65°F and 85°F.
Feed lightly with a diluted NPK fertilizer in the spring at a 5-10-5 ratio, avoiding fertilization during dormancy.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Opuntia ‘Mona Lisa’ (Cutting) is a low-maintenance, visually striking cactus that offers long-term beauty with minimal effort. Whether grown in a pot or planted in a desert landscape, it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to propagate and enjoy a classic prickly pear with a strong ornamental presence.
