Product Information

Buffalograss adapts best to full sun, but acceptable turf can be grown with 6 to 8 hours per day of direct sunlight. It is one of the most heat and drought tolerant of turfgrass species. Buffalograss has better cold tolerance than other warm-season turfgrasses, but the degree of cold tolerance varies among cultivars. Buffalograss does not germinate as a dense stand like tall fescue. One seedling per square foot is adequate because buffalograss becomes progressively thicker each year as the stolons spread.

All of our Buffalograss has been 'primed' to ensure faster and more uniform germination and establishment. This process breaks the natural dormancy of the seed and ensures that the seed starts growing more quickly when planted.

Buffalograss may be seeded or it may be vegetatively established using either sod or plugs or both, depending on the cultivar. Seeded cultivars will have both male and female flowers, while sodded types are predominantly female. The best time to plant is late spring or early summer, although sod and plugs may be planted as late as August or early September.

Buffalograss is a warm-season grass that spreads by above ground stems called stolons. Reproduction is dioecious -- female and male flowers are located on separate plants. Seed heads on male plants are located high in the turf grass canopy, while female seed heads are found near the base of the plant.

Avoid frequent irrigation, and water only as needed to maintain desired quality. For chemical weed control, use only products labeled for buffalograss. Avoid over-fertilization with nitrogen. Do not use 2,4-D on buffalograss during the first year of establishment or when temperature exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall applications are preferred for control of broadleaf weeds in buffalograss.

Seeding
Buffalograss seed burs should be planted at a rate of 1 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Seeding at the higher recommended rate should provide complete lawn coverage in one season. Seed burrs should be planted at a depth of 1/16 inch or less. Grooves can be made in the soil to receive seed using a verticutting machine or with a slicer-seeder machine that opens grooves in the soil and then deposits seed during one operation. It is important to use burrs that have been primed for germination by soaking in potassium nitrate to weaken the coat. Burrs may also be broadcast on the prepared seedbed using a box (drop) fertilizer spreader. Hulled, deburred seed is sometimes available but is much more expensive than burrs. Gently rake broadcasted burrs into the soil surface and then roll to ensure good burr-to-soil contact.

Lightly water the seedbed daily when there is no rain. As seedlings emerge and develop, irrigate less frequently but often enough to prevent drought stress. Mow seedlings at a height of 2 to 3 inches when the new seedlings have reached a height of 3 inches. Try to remove no more than one-third of the vertical growth at each mowing. About six weeks after seeding, apply a slow release nitrogen fertilizer at a rate of 1 pound nitrogen per 1,000 square feet.

These are adorable
Color: Coffe Wood, Color: Coffe Wood
This little frozen treat kit is absolutely adorable. I found 3 different colors for my 3 dogs, so I can tell who got theirs stolen. First, the kit itself is a 5 star. The little skull, the brain mold, absolutely adorable. Second, as with a lot of other reviews, what is up with the rope? I had hoped there was a cover for that part of the skull heads when I bought them, then I double checked the reviews and could have had a V8. 🤦🏼‍♀️ the good news is that once you get the rope off you can replace it with something more washable, if you choose. Rope is a 2 to 3 star. Third, my dogs don't like these ones as much, that's why the 3 stars. They've tried out 3 different kinds, with a 4th one coming this week. This was their 3rd favorite. They like the ability to carry it by the rope. Getting to the treat through the hole in the bottom isn't "hard", but the skull is tilted on the side, which is exactly what you want to keep your dog entertained, but two of my dogs didn't want to deal with it unless I held it for them. 😒 Dramatic. Fourth, and finally, I am keeping them. I will probably not put frozen treats in them again, and use it for dry treats or something. So, 3 to 4 stars since I probably won't be able to use the mold for these unless the dogs get used to them. These little skills have more of a rubber texture to them, making them not really hard plastic, and seemingly more durable. The top, so far, is easy to take off, if you don't have wet hands. There's little divets in the top to help you screw and unscrew thw top. Be careful not to screw it on too tight or too loose. I would take it away from my dogs as soon as I notice they are done with their treats, as I would with dirty dishes. It isn't a toy-toy, more like a treat dispenser.

Has some flaws but overall not bad
Color: Coffe Wood
I have a 13 pound Jack Russell mix who is an aggressive chewer and gets bored while I am working. I find that a frozen treat situation keeps him busy for 30-45 minutes in his kennel so I can get some quiet time. I've been stuffing the Kong and freezing it, but since I only have one, I have to remember to do it. I liked the option of keeping a bunch of frozen treats to refill the toy at will. I've been eyeballing the Pupsicle brand, but they are really expensive. So for around $10, I figured this was worth a try. Pros: So far seems tough. I unscrew it after he finishes the frozen treat so he can lick out the remains, then I take it away from him. I'm sure if I let him he would eventually chew it to shreds. The design is cute. Although you can't see the fact that the treats are brain shaped once it is in there, it does give me a kick to put a little brain in the skull. So far no issues with screwing the top of the skull on or taking it off The inner cavity is quite big. I filled the molds about 3/4 full and there is still a lot of room in the skull. If you have a bigger dog you can fill the molds to the top (just don't over-fill or it won't fit inside) If you make a big batch of treat filling, you can freeze the rest in those silicone muffin molds, they fit perfectly. Just don't over-fill. With a 3/4 full mold, made with pumpkin, peanut butter, oats, and a little water, it takes my dog about 45 minutes to get all of the treat out. Cons: It's huge and heavy. It's bigger than my dog's skull. But, since he is just trying to eat the brains, it's not like it needs to be lightweight. The rope is a bad idea. First, it gets gross. Second, my dog has chewed halfway through it already. This seems like a hazard for both choking and bacterial contamination. The biggest hole is big enough that my dog's bottom jaw gets a little stuck in there. So far he's always able to get it out, but it is a point against the toy. Overall, its not bad. Not perfect, but serves the function. I'd like to see a slightly smaller, slightly lighter version for dogs under 20 pounds, and lose the rope. If you do buy this, make sure to take it away from your dog once they have cleaned out the treat.

Great for aggressive chewers!
This item has held up for 4 months so far! My dog loves it, carries it everywhere. It's one of his favorite toys and he's been through so so many but this is the only one to hold up. However there are CONS! We have dubbed this bone "the cheese grater". My dog loves to bring his toys to us and press them against our legs to get our attention. So after a little chewing, the ends become very rough. When he runs by us with it in his mouth or presses it up against our legs, it tears our skin up! Also, the bone is very heavy so we have to watch out for our toes because Hank will drop it right on our feet if we aren't paying attention. Other than that, it's great! When it gets dirty, I just throw it in the dish washer and rinse it off after the cycle is done. Cleans up nicely! Would buy again if needed! Recommend for aggressive chewers!
