Dealing with Pests
Whiteflies
Small flying insects that feed on foliage, often leaving sticky residue. Inspect leaves regularly, use yellow sticky traps, and follow detailed prevention steps on our Whitefly guide.
Aphids
Often cluster on new growth and suck plant sap, which can deform leaves. Rinse with water, use insecticidal soap, and see our aphid guide for step by step control.
Fungus Gnats
Small flies breeding in damp soil, attracted by overwatering. Let the top inch of soil dry between waterings, use sticky traps, and follow our fungus gnat control guide.
Thrips
Slender pests that leave silvery streaks on leaves. Act fast with insecticidal soap or neem oil, and consult the thrips management guide for more details.
Scale
Look for brown or black bumps on stems and leaves. Remove by hand, use horticultural oil if needed, and refer to the scale removal guide for full instructions.
Spider Mites
Tiny, spider like pests that cause stippling and webbing in dry conditions. Increase humidity, wipe leaves, and follow our spider mite guide for treatments.
Mealybugs
White, cottony clusters that hide in leaf joints, treat by dabbing with alcohol and repeating until cleared, see our mealybug guide for full steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much light does Aglaonema Red Army need?
Bright, indirect light brings out the best color, but it tolerates lower light better than many other colorful cultivars.
How often should I water it?
Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away to avoid soggy roots.
Does it need high humidity?
Moderate humidity is fine, higher humidity will help new leaves look fuller and reduce pest pressure, but it will do well in most homes.
Is it safe for pets?
Aglaonema plants contain calcium oxalate crystals, so they can be toxic if eaten by pets or humans. Keep them out of reach of curious pets and children.
