If you want to turn your landscape into a painter’s palette of nodding blooms, the Watters Parade of Poppies is the ultimate choice. This spectacular mix is a curated celebration of the world’s most beloved poppy species, designed to create a "parade" of color that marches through your garden from spring into summer. I love this blend because it combines both annual and perennial varieties, ensuring that you get a massive burst of color in the first season while establishing hardy roots that will return and reseed for years to come.
This mix features a breathtaking lineup of textures and hues. You’ll find the classic, papery petals of the Mixed Shirley Poppy and the bold Red Shirley Poppy, alongside the delicate, cup-shaped California Poppies in shades of brilliant orange, crisp white, and deep red. The collection also includes the resilient Iceland Poppy, known for its sturdy stems and pastel elegance, and the sunny Mexican Poppy. Together, they create a multi-layered effect that attracts a literal "parade" of pollinators, from honeybees to butterflies, all while remaining remarkably deer-resistant.
Success Tip: Poppies have tiny seeds that need a little extra help to get started in our Arizona winds. For the best results, we recommend using Watters Premium Mulch. After scattering your seeds over prepared, loosened soil, apply a light "dusting" of mulch (no more than 1/4 inch) over the top. This layer acts like a protective blanket, locking in the consistent moisture needed for germination and preventing our local birds from snacking on your future flowers. Once these beauties are established, they are incredibly tough and will happily color your world with minimal effort!
