Description:
Grewia ‘Lavender Star’ is a striking evergreen shrub or small tree admired for its unique, star-shaped purple flowers that appear over a long period from spring through to autumn. Each bloom features five narrow, lavender-purple petals with a prominent yellow centre, creating a bold display against the plant’s glossy, deep green foliage. Native to southern Africa, this fast-growing variety thrives in Melbourne’s climate when planted in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. It tolerates dry periods once established and is an excellent choice for creating a flowering hedge, feature shrub, or small screening plant. The long flowering season and nectar-rich blooms make it highly attractive to bees and butterflies. Light pruning after flowering helps to maintain a neat shape and encourage more blooms. Grewia ‘Lavender Star’ offers a unique and exotic look, especially when trained as a standard or grown in a decorative container.
