Aglaonema 'Maria' Medium (Aglaonema commutatum 'Maria') – Classic Green Foliage for Effortless Elegance

Summary: Aglaonema 'Maria' is a timeless indoor favourite, known for its rich green leaves and fuss-free nature—ideal for low-light European interiors.
✨ Why You'll Love It
- Beautiful deep green leaves with subtle silver striping
- Thrives in low to medium light—perfect for German homes and offices
- Exceptionally easy to care for and drought-tolerant
- Compact and bushy, ideal for tabletops, shelves, or corners
🌞 Light & Placement
Does well in low to moderate indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun to preserve the vibrant leaf color. Ideal for shady corners or windowless rooms with artificial light.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water moderately—let the top few centimeters of soil dry out between waterings. Handles typical indoor humidity well, but occasional misting is appreciated.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining indoor plant mix. A peat-based substrate with perlite or sand ensures healthy root development and prevents sogginess.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Note: Although often listed as pet-safe due to its low toxicity, it can cause mild irritation if ingested. Best kept out of reach of pets and children.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Slow to moderate grower with a symmetrical, clumping habit. Easily propagated by dividing the root ball during repotting.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Reduce watering during the winter months. Keep away from cold windows and avoid placing near radiators or heaters.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves: Usually from overwatering or poor drainage.
- Brown leaf tips: Often a sign of dry air or inconsistent watering.
🧬 Botanical Background
Native to the shady forest floors of Southeast Asia, Aglaonema 'Maria' is a long-standing houseplant favorite in Europe, celebrated for its adaptability and deep, calming foliage tones.
