Gray French Lavender, also known as Fringed Lavender, is a distinctive and highly aromatic evergreen shrub prized for its uniquely textured, silvery-gray foliage and long blooming season. Its most notable feature is its toothed, linear leaves which are densely covered in soft, silvery hairs, giving the plant a soft, frosted appearance. It produces short, stout spikes of pale blue flowers that are topped with small, petal-like bracts, and can bloom intermittently from spring through fall in mild climates. More tolerant of humidity and varied soils than English lavender, it adds excellent texture and a relaxed, Mediterranean feel to the garden.
-
Silvery-Gray, Toothed (Dentate) Foliage: Features uniquely serrated, linear leaves covered in fine silver hairs, providing outstanding year-round color and texture.
-
Extended Blooming Period: Capable of producing flowers over many months, especially in frost-free climates, with peaks in spring and fall.
-
Good Heat and Humidity Tolerance: Performs better in humid summer conditions than most English lavenders (Lavandula angustifolia).
-
Strong, Camphorous Fragrance: The foliage releases a potent, characteristic lavender scent when brushed.
-
Attractive to Pollinators: Its long-lasting flowers provide a reliable nectar source for bees and butterflies.
