Columnea gloriosa ‘California Gold’
Columnea gloriosa, the California Gold variety of the Goldfish Plant, is cherished for its vibrant red-orange blooms that charmingly resemble leaping goldfish. This plant thrives under extra humidity, making it perfect for enthusiasts who enjoy providing a bit of extra care, such as misting or using a humidifier. With its unique flowering and care needs, California Gold adds a burst of color and a tropical feel to any space.
For optimal growth and blooming in the spring and summer, keep the soil lightly moist without letting it dry out completely during the winter. A slightly drier winter encourages vibrant blooms. The recommended African violet soil mix ensures proper drainage and nutrient balance. This distinctive plant is ideal for anyone looking to add a splash of lively color and interest to their indoor garden.
Goldfish Plant Basic Care: Easy
- Watering: Don't let it completely dry out. Water when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry.
- Light: Opt for bright, filtered light. Direct sunlight can burn the foliage, while too little light may cause leaves to drop.
- Soil/Drainage: It best suits a well-aerated, draining tropical mix, though it can handle a standard indoor potting mix.
- Temperature/Humidity: It's OK with average room temperatures and humidity but thrives in warmer and humid conditions.
