Long-flowering and impossible to ignore, Ornithogalum dubium Orange, known as the Star of Bethlehem, throws up tight spikes of brilliant orange, star-shaped flowers that can keep going for months. Glossy green, strappy foliage forms the backdrop, giving the plant a clean, dressed-up look even between flushes. Cheerful on a sunny windowsill, kitchen counter, or as a gifted bulb in full bloom.
Origins
Ornithogalum dubium is native to the Western and Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows as a seasonal bulb in rocky, well-drained fynbos and lowland scrub under bright, sunny conditions with a dry summer dormancy.
