The Stephania erecta (caudex plant) is a rare, sculptural houseplant prized for its rounded tuber and elegant, climbing vines. From the “potato‑like” caudex, it unfurls a canopy of round, heart‑shaped leaves that brings an instant bonsai‑style charm to shelves, desks, and windowsills.
Resilient and eye‑catching, it’s a standout for collectors and beginners alike—beautiful, unique, and surprisingly easy to care for.
🌿 Care Guide
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal; avoid harsh midday sun.
-
Watering: Allow soil to dry out between waterings. The caudex stores moisture—when in doubt, water less.
-
Soil: Use a fast‑draining mix (cactus/succulent soil with perlite or pumice).
-
Temperature: Warm conditions 20–30°C (68–86°F); protect from cold drafts.
-
Feeding: Apply a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during active growth.
-
Growth habit: In season, vines can push many leaves, creating a lush, airy look; during rest, reduce watering and let the plant nap.
✨ Why You’ll Love It
-
Tough & forgiving: Strong survival instinct thanks to its water‑storing caudex.
-
Leafy and lovely: Can produce lots of round leaves for a graceful, layered display.
-
Design-forward: A living sculpture that elevates any interior.
