The Song of Jamaica is a tropical evergreen shrub admired for its arching stems lined with glossy, pointed green leaves edged in lighter tones, creating a lush, architectural presence indoors or on shaded patios. In Cape Town’s climate, it thrives year-round as a decorative indoor plant, bringing vibrant greenery and a touch of the tropics to homes and offices. While it rarely flowers indoors, mature plants may produce clusters of small, fragrant white blooms in summer (December to February), followed by orange-red berries. This plant is valued for its air-purifying qualities, resilience in low-light conditions, and ability to adapt to container living. It is perfect for indoor décor, atriums, shaded patios, and modern landscapes, where its upright form and rich foliage create a bold statement. Bring tropical elegance and easy-care greenery into your space with the Song of Jamaica.

Plant & Care
Plant in well-drained soil or a quality indoor potting mix. Place in semi-shade or bright indirect light, avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch leaves. Water moderately, allowing the topsoil to dry between waterings; reduce watering in winter (June-August). Wipe leaves occasionally to maintain shine and remove dust. Prune lightly to shape and encourage bushier growth.
