Ocimum basilicum Licorice Basil is a striking, aromatic annual herb, valued for its distinctive purple stems, dark green foliage, and bold, spicy anise flavor. Growing to about 12 to 24 inches tall with a spread of 12 to 18 inches, this variety is perfect for culinary herb gardens, ornamental borders, and container plantings where both flavor and visual contrast are desired. Unlike the mild sweetness of Genovese basil, Licorice Basil offers a sharper, more intense profile similar to tarragon or fennel, filling the garden with a sweet, spicy scent that intensifies in the summer heat.
Culinary and Practical Uses
- The sturdy, aromatic leaves are an essential component in Southeast Asian cuisine, providing the signature anise kick to Thai curries, Vietnamese pho, and stir-fries.
- Excellent for infusing into syrups, cocktails, and herbal teas, where its natural sweetness and licorice notes add depth without the need for added sugar.
-
Traditionally used in herbal practices to settle the stomach, freshen breath, and as a natural insect repellent due to its strong essential oils.
Characteristics
- Foliage: Narrow, dark green leaves with a purple flush and deep purple stems; possesses a strong, spicy licorice (anise) fragrance distinct from sweet basil.
- Growth Habit: Upright, bushy, and vigorous; the sturdy stems make it less prone to flopping than other basil varieties and an excellent cut flower filler.
- Flowers: Produces stunning, deep purple flower spikes (inflorescences) in late summer, which are highly ornamental and attract a multitude of pollinators.
- Seeds: Harvested after the purple flower heads dry and turn brown; the small black seeds are easily collected and saved for the following season.
Growing Requirements
- Sun: Thrives in full sun; requires at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight to maintain its purple coloration and concentrated flavor oils.
- Soil: Adapts to most soil types but prefers rich, fertile, well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5; warm soil is essential for germination.
- Water: Requires moderate watering; keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, as it is slightly more drought-tolerant than large-leaf sweet basils once established.
- Spacing: Plant seeds or transplants 12 to 18 inches apart to allow for air circulation and accommodate its bushy growth.
- Maintenance: Pinch off the growing tips frequently to encourage branching; while the flowers are beautiful, removing them prolongs the harvest window for culinary leaves.

Very good
Style: 18", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I recently purchased this inflatable mattress from Amazon, and I’m honestly very impressed with the quality and comfort. It inflated quickly and was very easy to set up. The material feels durable and strong, and the mattress stayed fully inflated throughout the entire night without losing a

This is a very good air mattress
Style: 13”, Color: Grey, Size: Twin
I love this mattress so much I work overnights and I needed something to sleep on so I bought this mattress and it was the best mattress ever it’s so comfortable I purchased it Dec 24th2025 and it’s now starting to deflate I can’t find any holes in it but I still use it. I’m not gonna get rid of it because I can still sleep on it I just need to inflate it two times throughout the night it doesn’t bother me because it’s so comfortable. I’m not gonna lie I did purchase another one. But I’m 125 lb but the grands can sleep on it when they stay over so I will be keeping it. This is a really good air mattress well worth your money.

Decent air mattress if you take care of it
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I’ve been buying this air mattress, and its previous model, for the last four years. I used to go camping and attend festivals about six times a year, and I wasn’t particularly nice to my air beds. Most of the time I didn’t fold them back up neatly or put them in the storage bag. I’d just deflate them, throw them in the car, and head to the next event. Even with that treatment, they held up surprisingly well.
I was nervous about buying the new version with the redesigned inflate/deflate module, but on a whim I decided to give it a try.
I used it during a five-night camping trip near Tygh Valley, Oregon at the end of May 2026, where temperatures ranged from about 85°F during the day to around 40°F at night.
Did it lose some air over the weekend? Yes. Was it enough to bother me? No. In fact, over the entire five-night trip, I only had to add air once. Considering the temperature swings, I was impressed with how well it held up.
The new model does seem to take a little longer to deflate than the older versions, but that’s a minor complaint. Overall, I’m very happy with it.
I’ve had good luck with these mattresses over the years, and this new version seems just as solid as the previous model.
I would absolutely recommend this mattress and will continue buying this model when it’s time to replace mine.

Better than our actual mattress!!
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen, Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
Purchased for company to stay with us in our apartment. I honestly had no idea they made air mattresses this tall until I saw a friend with one!
My husband and I tested it out last night. We were both really impressed!
1. Really easy to inflate! First time having an internal air pump. No more forgetting the pump! The motor wasn’t nearly as loud as our previous air pump! I was able to talk to my husband and he could still hear me over the pump running.
2. Really comfortable and supportive! We chose not to inflate it fully so it contoured to our bodies better. We slept on the mattress with no sheets and I wasn’t able to feel the creases in the top which was nice. No issues with sagging and we both didn’t wake up smooshed in the middle. My husband got up in the middle of the night and I didn’t notice. So movement of the mattress is minimal! Easy to get on and off with the 22” height.
3. Easy to deflate! We followed the instructions for folding and we got it in the storage bag with no issues. Just make sure all of the air is out before you fold it.
4. High quality! We had both of our small dogs on this with us. I was afraid of their nails poking a hole but so far so good! Only a little bit of air leaked out but it could’ve been the material stretching out during the night.
Cons: The pump does not shut off automatically when inflating or deflating. So keep an eye on it so it doesn’t overfill. The mattress does get cold at night. My husband and I both mentioned that in the morning. I had to roll up in my blanket to stay warm. I’ll try sheets on next time. In the summer it might not be that big of an issue. Ours came with one patch. Hopefully we won’t need to use it.

A lot of comfort for a very inexpensive price
Style: 18", Color: Grey, Size: Twin
We needed a spare mattress, but didn’t want to have a dedicated spare bedroom but wanted a comfortable bed. Couldn’t afford these high priced mattresses these days like the air beds or luxury coil spring with gel which are thousands of dollars. Miss air mattresses, very comfortable and adorable and I like the flocked top on it. And it has the self inflatable pump which is very easy and inconvenient. This makes a very inexpensive alternative. Even if it only lasts 6 months or so you can buy a whole lot of these for a lot less money than thousands of dollars for the other beds. In tax is a wonderful brand. I’ve bought it many times. Their vinyl material is very thick and durable. Intex makes flotation devices, blowup rafts, beach floaties, Kayaks, etc.
They have an excellent product & know what they’re doing.
