A striking antique Anduze garden pot from the revered pottery of La Madeleine in Anduze, Gard, France. This monumental piece stands 27 inches high and 22 inches in diameter, featuring the traditional baluster form with classic festoon garland reliefs and the iconic crest stamp reading “La Madeleine Anduze-Gard.” Finished in a rich ochre glaze with a beautiful aged patina, the pot bears areas of natural glaze loss consistent with age and outdoor exposure, enhancing its timeworn charm.
Originating from the town of Anduze in southern France, these pots were first inspired by Italian Medici urns and have been produced since the 17th century. Celebrated for their elegant proportions and durability, Anduze pots became a staple in aristocratic gardens across Provence and beyond. The La Madeleine pottery, one of the region’s historic ateliers, continues this legacy with pieces steeped in regional craftsmanship and heritage.
This example, likely dating to the early 20th century, embodies the rustic elegance and Provençal spirit of its origin.
