6 Jatropha podagrica seeds. Jatropha podagrica, commonly known as the Buddha Belly Plant or Gout Plant, is an intriguing and visually captivating succulent shrub native to Central America. This unique plant is characterized by its swollen and bulbous stem, resembling a potbelly or the belly of Buddha, hence its common name. The stem serves as a water storage organ, allowing the plant to withstand periods of drought. The leaves of Jatropha podagrica are large, lobed, and palmate, adding to its ornamental value.
One of the standout features of this plant is its vibrant and eye-catching flowers. Clusters of bright red or coral-colored blossoms with yellow centers emerge from the top of the stem, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. These flowers are followed by interesting seed pods, which contain seeds that are poisonous if ingested.
Jatropha podagrica is often cultivated as an ornamental plant, prized for its unique and intriguing form. It can be grown in containers indoors as a houseplant or can be grown as a focal point in gardens, providing a tropical and exotic touch. This succulent shrub prefers full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance, making it a popular choice for both experienced and novice gardeners seeking an unusual and visually striking addition to their plant collection.

Growing Instructions
Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours to improve germination. Fill a seed tray or pots with well-draining soil, and plant the seeds at a depth of approximately 1/4 inch (0.6 cm). Place the tray or pots in a warm and bright location, preferably with temperatures around 70-85°F (21-29°C). Keep the soil consistently moist but not overly saturated. Germination typically takes 2-4 weeks. Once the seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual pots or into a prepared garden bed. Provide them with bright sunlight and continue to water them regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. With proper care, Jatropha podagrica will grow into a unique and fascinating succulent shrub, delighting with its bulbous stem, attractive foliage, and vibrant flowers.
