Philodendron billietiae in Self-Watering Planter
Philodendron billietiae is a rare tropical collector’s plant admired for its long, spade-shaped leaves that can grow over 4 feet in length. Its striking orange petioles create a bold contrast against deep green foliage, making it a true statement plant.
This plant is available in a self-watering planter, ensuring consistent moisture levels and making plant care easier by reducing the risk of overwatering or underwatering.
Native to South America and belonging to the Araceae family, Philodendron billietiae is a climbing species that becomes increasingly dramatic as it matures, typically reaching 2’–4’ in height.
Environment
Light: Prefers medium to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
Water: The self-watering pot maintains steady moisture. Refill the reservoir when needed and avoid water stagnation.
Humidity: Thrives in normal to high humidity. Regular misting supports healthy growth.
Temperature: Prefers warm tropical conditions above 18°C and should be protected from cold drafts.
Soil: Well-draining, airy mix rich in organic matter. A peat-based mix with perlite or orchid bark works best.
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 1–2 weeks during spring and summer.
Pests: May attract aphids and mealybugs. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
Placement
Ideal for indoor plant displays, moss poles, and shaded garden corners. Its climbing nature makes it perfect for vertical support setups.
Adds a bold tropical aesthetic to interiors and helps improve indoor air quality by reducing common pollutants such as formaldehyde and benzene.
Caution
Toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children, especially dogs and cats.
