Oriental Giant Japanese spinach is a fast-growing and nutrient-rich variety well suited to home gardeners and small-scale growers. This open-pollinated Asian heirloom produces extra-large, deep green leaves with a sweet, mild flavor and tender texture that remains even at full size. The upright growth habit makes for easy harvesting, and the broad, glossy leaves are ideal for salads, sautés, soups, and steaming.
Best grown in full sun to partial shade, Oriental Giant thrives in well-drained, fertile soil with consistent moisture. This cool-season crop performs reliably in spring and fall plantings and resists bolting, even as temperatures begin to rise. The variety’s quick maturity and extended harvest window make it a dependable choice for continuous leafy greens throughout the season. Its cold tolerance and adaptability also make it an excellent option for overwintering in milder climates.
Whether you're looking to boost soil productivity with leafy greens or add a versatile crop to your kitchen garden, Oriental Giant Japanese spinach offers flavor, resilience, and high yields in a compact footprint. Sow directly or start indoors for transplanting in early spring or late summer for optimal results.
