If you love the bold texture of succulents but want a compact showstopper, let me introduce you to the Aloe 'Christmas Carol'. This isn't your grandma's plain old Aloe Vera. This hybrid boasts deep green leaves with vibrant crimson edges, especially when given the right amount of light—it truly looks like it’s glowing for the holidays year-round!
The reason for those spectacular red margins is bright light. To keep those holiday colors popping, place it where it receives plenty of sun, perhaps a south or west-facing window. If it starts to look pale green, it needs more light to produce that dramatic contrast.
Like most aloes, this plant is drought-tolerant, which answers the common concern about overwatering. The most important advice I can give you is to use a gritty, fast-draining succulent soil and only water when the soil is completely dry, usually every 3-4 weeks. This careful watering prevents rot. It's a small plant, but the beauty it brings is enormous!
