The smooth stems are generally light green to reddish purple. The white flowers are held on erect spike-like racemes and are quite showy. Bloom time ranges from mid-spring to early summer. Preference is for full sun, dry to mesic soils.
Generally found in less disturbed sites partially due to the large heavy seeds that do no travel far. This plant is great for bumblebees. Seeds may germinate the first year, but may take up to 3 years to flower. Both White Wild Indigo and Blue False Indigo are considered deer resistant.
How To Plant White Wild Indigo Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
