Peperomia orba 'Pixie'

Peperomia orba 'Pixie' is a miniature Peperomia with small fleshy green leaves and short stems that build into a low, rounded mound. It brings the Peperomia look into a very small footprint, with fresh green foliage that stays close to the pot rather than trailing far over the edge.

The leaves are smooth, oval to rounded and slightly succulent to the touch. As the plant fills in, the short stems create a dense surface of small leaves, making 'Pixie' especially suited to close-up displays, small shelves and grouped plant setups.

Small-scale plant features:

  • Leaf size: Small green leaves create a fine, tidy texture.
  • Growth habit: Short stems form a tight mound rather than a long trailing plant.
  • Root system: Fine roots suit a modest pot and careful watering.
  • Indoor size: The plant stays naturally small and does not need frequent repotting.
  • Flowering: Mature plants may produce slim Peperomia flower spikes.

Miniature growth and pot behaviour:

Peperomia belongs to Piperaceae, a tropical plant family that includes many small herbs, epiphytes and moisture-sensitive species. Indoors, Peperomia orba 'Pixie' behaves like a small-rooted Peperomia with fleshy leaves, short stems and a naturally restrained growth habit.

The plant needs warmth, bright filtered light and a fine airy substrate that can dry slightly between waterings while still holding a little moisture around the roots. Its small scale makes pot choice important: a tiny plant in a large pot is more likely to sit wet around the root zone.

A small pot can dry quickly at the surface while the centre still holds moisture, so pot weight and leaf firmness are better guides than a fixed watering schedule.

Care for a dense little mound:

  • Light: Place it in bright indirect light. Low light opens the mound and creates longer spaces between leaves.
  • Watering: Water when the top layer has dried. Avoid letting the tiny root system sit in a wet, airless mix.
  • Substrate: Use a fine, airy houseplant mix with perlite or pumice. Very chunky mixes can dry unevenly in small pots.
  • Pot size: Keep the pot close to the root ball so the substrate volume matches the plant’s scale.
  • Temperature: Keep it above 15 °C, with steadier growth around 18–25 °C.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is usually accepted, while dry heated air can slow new leaf expansion.
  • Feeding: Use a weak fertiliser during active growth. The plant remains small and does not need heavy feeding.
  • Propagation: Root short stem cuttings warm and lightly moist, with airflow around the cuttings.

Small-plant problems to watch:

  • Open growth: Usually points to low light. Move the plant gradually into brighter filtered exposure.
  • Yellow base leaves: Check for a pot that stays wet too long or substrate that has compacted around the roots.
  • Wrinkled leaves: Check whether the plant is dry or whether root loss has limited water uptake.
  • Soft centre growth: Remove affected pieces and improve airflow around the crown.
  • Fungus gnats: Let the top layer dry more between waterings and avoid keeping the surface constantly damp.

Household safety:

Peperomia orba 'Pixie' is grown as an ornamental houseplant. Keep it away from pets and children that chew plants, and remove trimmed pieces from the pot surface.

Botanical name background:

Peperomia means pepper-like, reflecting the genus’ relationship with Piperaceae. The name Peperomia orba was published by G.S.Bunting in 1966. The name 'Pixie' is used in cultivation for this miniature green plant.

Peperomia orba 'Pixie' stays low and compact, with small green leaves packed along short stems.

Holds a lot, doesn't soak my countertop
Color: Grey, Color: Grey
Where has this wonderful organizer been all my life? I've always struggled with keeping those little suction-cup organizers reliably attached to the walls of stainless steel sinks -- after a while the cups always fail. But this organizer is just large enough and has room for every scrubbing item I want to grab in a hurry. And there's never water pooling under the organizer and soaking the granite countertop because there are little foam feet on the underside. It even looks classy. I just love it! Only time will tell if this organizer is durable. So far I haven't had to clean it.

Almost perfect sink caddy
Color: Black, Color: Black
My old reliable sink caddy had rusted through and I ordered 3 different replacements that I ended up returning. You would think a sink caddy would be very straightforward and simple - however I had certain things I needed out of it. What I like- -the large size. I don’t love having a million soaps but my husband recently got diagnosed with psoriasis on his hands. We tried Castile soap and water in a pump, and several free and clear types. He’s always working in the yard or cooking and we need them ALL out and accessible. Plus needed room for our actual dish washing soaps and brushes. Even if you have a normal amount of soaps - you could easily display a spray or other cleaner to fill this caddy up. -the tray. This one was important. I returned several others bc their plastic tray or absorbing stone bottoms were too small. The caddy would overhang and your soaps would trip out over past them. This stone tray has a little lip that goes all the way around like a border for your caddy. Most of the drips of water stay confined to the tray. (Unless you have splashy kids washing hands & dripping everywhere). But it’s mostly contained. -absorbing tray. This tray does not require you to empty the water out each day so it doesn’t over fill. It absorbs the water. I don’t know how. Maybe magic. But it doesn’t over fill and it doesn’t leak on the counter. If you have dirty splashes or a dirty scrub brush dripping down - it can leave some brownish marks. I take my soap out once a week and wash the caddy down and scrub the tray and it’s good as new. They included a small sand paper to use if the tray ever loses its absorbing power- you can lightly sand the stone and it’s supposed to open up the pores and be more absorbent again. I’ve only had mine a month and it’s not been an issue yet. The tall, removable brush caddy - while I do wish it was a teensy bit taller - it’s still taller than any others I tried. Your brush will have to lean a bit unless you have multiple brushes helping to hold it up. We basically use one brush and a straw cleaner and I have doubles of each. I keep 1 set out and 1 set in my dishwasher and I switch them every day. But there is room so if you need bottle brushes or scrubbers you could fill it up. You can also remove that little basket entirely if you want. And it has a hook on the back of it so if you prefer - you can hang it off the front of the caddy instead and have it overhanging over your sink instead. My sink is very rounded and it’s tough to display a caddy so that the soap is all accessible but it’s also not overhanging too much. The weight of the under stone tray doesn’t allow it to tip over into the sink or move. They also included sticky protective pads for the bottom of your stone which protects your counter tops and also makes it non slip. Over all I love and am very happy. I hope it doesn’t rust over time. But I would purchase it again. And if they made attachments for it or taller brush basket add ons I would purchase those too. Thanks for reading my ridiculously long review for a simple sink caddy. But if you’re very particular about things like me, I hope it helps!

Works well.
Color: Black
As described, but I think I should have gone with the larger one. Works well and does the job. No runny soapy water on the kitchen counter.
