Delight your feline friends and enrich your garden with Catnip Seeds (Nepeta cataria) from Survival Garden Seeds. This classic member of the mint family produces fragrant, leafy plants that cats absolutely love—and gardeners appreciate for their versatility, beauty, and usefulness. Whether grown indoors in containers or outdoors in beds and borders, catnip offers fun for pets and value for people.
Cats Go Wild for Catnip
Cats naturally adore catnip! Watch them sniff, roll, and purr with delight around the fresh or dried leaves. Growing live catnip plants ensures a continuous, safe, and pesticide-free treat for your pets. Catnip can also provide enrichment and greens for indoor cats who benefit from natural stimulation.
Great for Herbal Tea & Natural Remedies
Beyond its appeal to cats, catnip has long been used by humans as a soothing herbal tea and gentle traditional remedy. The leaves can be harvested fresh or dried for later use, offering a mild, calming flavor similar to mint and lemon balm.
Beautiful, Pollinator-Friendly Herb
Catnip blooms with soft lavender flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. This hardy perennial is easy to grow, drought-tolerant once established, and adds a pleasant fragrance to any garden space.
Cold Stratify for Better Germination
For best results, simulate natural winter conditions before planting. To cold stratify, place seeds in a damp paper towel, roll up, and refrigerate for 2–3 weeks before sowing. This process improves germination and helps you grow more strong, healthy plants.
Why Gardeners Love Catnip:
- Fun for cats: Provides safe enrichment for indoor and outdoor pets.
- Dual-purpose herb: Great for herbal teas and natural uses.
- Pollinator magnet: Attracts bees and butterflies with fragrant blooms.
- Easy to grow: Thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, indoors or out.
How to Grow:
- Cold stratify seeds for 2–3 weeks before sowing.
- Sow in well-drained soil with full sun exposure.
- Keep soil lightly moist until germination (10–20 days).
- Harvest leaves before flowering for best aroma and potency.
