Pond Plant & Water Lily Fabric Containers!

PondGro Fabric Containers — Built for Life Underwater

The PondGro line of underwater fabric containers is the only planter series made especially for pond use — with breathable fabric walls, fold-down rims, and stout handles. We know your waterlilies, hardy marginals, and submerged oxygenators deserve the best environment, and that’s what PondGro delivers.

These pots deliver oxygen directly to your plant’s roots, prevent root-curling, reduce sediment runoff, and even protect fish and hands from sharp plastic shards. Plastic might be cheap, but for underwater planting, it’s the dull knife in the drawer — fabric is the scalpel.

Choose the size that fits your plants. Roll down the side if your shelf is shallow. Lower it slowly via handles. Let roots colonize the fabric, grow in full health, bloom beautifully — and enjoy a crystal-clear pond.

Why Fabric Containers Are the Right Choice for Aquatic Plants (Especially Waterlilies)

Let’s get one thing straight: not all pots are equal when submerged. Many gardeners instinctively use plastic or rigid baskets, but there’s a better way — a way that works with plant biology, not against it.

1. Oxygen Access at the Root Zone

  • Aquatic plants (and really all plants) require oxygen at their roots to respire (produce energy) and absorb nutrients.

  • Solid plastic containers are, by definition, impermeable. They block oxygen diffusion through the pot walls, so roots deep in the soil experience low oxygen, which leads to slow growth or even root rot.

  • Fabric containers are breathable. The porous material allows water to pass into the soil and air to pass outwards — delivering oxygen from the surrounding pond water to the root zone. This improves nutrient uptake and supports more vigorous growth.

  • In horticultural usage, fabric (or “root-pruning”) pots are known to encourage fibrous, branching root systems instead of root circling and tangles.

2. Root Pruning Prevents Root-Binding

  • In plastic pots, roots eventually hit the wall, curl, circle, and create a tangled, inefficient mess (root-bound).

  • In fabric pots, when roots approach the edges, they're “air-pruned” — the root tips are exposed to air and stop elongating. This causes branching inward, resulting in many feeder roots instead of one large winding root.

  • This natural root pruning leads to healthier, more efficient root systems that are better at absorbing oxygen, water, and nutrients.

3. Cleaner Water, Less Sediment

  • Rigid baskets or cracked plastic sometimes allow loose soil/media to leak out, clouding your pond or necessitating the use of filters.

  • Fabric containers hold soil in place while allowing water and gases to pass through. This keeps the pond clearer and reduces “fuzz” or silt drifting into the water.

4. Safety, Durability & Environmental Benefits

  • Plastic containers eventually become brittle, crack, or expose sharp edges that can injure hands, fish, turtles, or amphibians. Fabric pots are soft, flexible, and safer to handle.

  • Over time, plastic can leach chemicals (e.g. BPA, phthalates, etc.) under sunlight and in a wet environment — a potential concern for aquatic systems. Some fabric containers avoid these issues entirely (especially if made from inert geotextile materials). Fabric containers are lightweight, foldable, and cheaper to ship. They can be folded flat for packing, reducing shipping volume and freight cost.

Bottom line: For underwater planting (excluding lotus and cattails, as you’ll see below), fabric containers provide oxygen, root health, clean water, user safety, and shipping advantages.

Introducing PondGro Fabric Containers

Key Features & Benefits (so your customers get it)

  • Double-stitched handles (on all except the smaller two sizes): Two or more people can carry the large or specimen pots easily, lowering them gently into the pond.

  • Adjustable height / roll-down sides: If your pond shelf is shallow, roll or fold down the walls to a shorter height. No need to buy multiple fixed-size pots.

  • Designed for underwater use: These are not standard garden fabric pots — they’re made to resist water stress, UV, mold, and pond conditions.

  • Durability: Tough geotextile fabric, reinforced seams, designed to last in pond environment.

  • Soil containment + oxygen access: Soil stays inside; water and gases pass freely.

  • Better than baskets: No brittle plastic edges to crack or break, no soil washout, no tipping as long as weight is adequately matched to plant size.

Sizing & Matching Pots to Plants

To help your customers pick the right size, here’s a simple chart and guideline. (We can turn this into a PDF or image to show on your site.)

PondGro Size Approx Dimensions Best Use / Ideal Plants Notes
Small ~9″ across, 5″ deep Submerged grasses, oxygenators, tropical waterlilies, groundcover plants (≤ 18″ height) Use where low profile is needed
Medium ~10″ across, 12″ deep Small/medium hardy waterlilies, many marginal plants (up to ~4 ft tall), large patches of submersed species Good general-purpose pot
Large (wide & shallow) ~15″ across, ~5.5″ deep Large hardy waterlilies that spread laterally They bloom better when they have lateral space
Super (specimen size) ~24″ across Specimen water lily plant or multiple water lilies planted close together, or a Giant Victoria Water Lily Has four handles (two people can carry)

Weight & Stability Tip
Your container must be heavy enough to resist tipping or floating. A good rule: your pot should weigh (with soil and root ballast) about 25–30% of the mature plant height. For example, a plant that reaches 48″ (4 ft) high should be in at least a 12″ deep pot plus soil so that the total mass resists wind or water movement.

Special Case: Lotus & Cattails
We do not recommend fabric containers for lotus or true cattails. Their robust rhizome growth demands a solid, barrier container (no holes) to contain their aggressive rhizomes. For most aquatic plants (but not lotus or cattails), fabric is the superior choice.

“How to Plant in a PondGro Fabric Container” (Step-by-Step)

Here’s a simple guide (fifth-grade reading level!) to get your customers planting right:

  1. Unfold the fabric container and place it on a flat surface.

  2. Fill ½ level with a heavy sandy loam or aquatic planting soil mix.

  3. Position your plant so the crown is at the desired height (often near the container rim).

  4. Add more soil to fill around roots, gently firming to eliminate air pockets.

  5. Optional: insert fertilizer tab(s) toward the base or side of the container.

  6. Roll down the rim if needed to match your pond shelf depth.

  7. Gently lower the pot via handles into the pond, placing it on a ledge, risers, or the pond bottom.

  8. Settle it: allow the pond water to infiltrate the soil, helping lock it in.

  9. Over time, roots will grow through the fabric, further anchoring the pot and improving nutrient uptake.

FAQs — Addressing Objections & Common Questions

Q: Will the fabric rot, tear, or degrade underwater over time?
A: High-quality geotextile fabrics are engineered for durability. They resist tearing, UV exposure, mold, and flex fatigue. While nothing is eternal, you can expect multiple seasons of use. And even if a pot eventually fails, it’s less likely to crack and harm your pond than brittle plastic.

Q: Don’t fabric pots dry out too fast on land?
A: Out-of-water, fabric pots do allow evaporation. But underwater, your pond acts as the moisture buffer. Water is always available via diffusion. The porous walls simply allow vapor exchange without losing soil.

Q: What about plants with deep, aggressive roots?
A: Most waterlilies, marginal plants, and submersed species are well served by fabric. The only real exceptions are lotus and some tall cattails with subterranean rhizomes — these require a solid, impermeable container.

Q: How do I clean or reuse them?
A: At season’s end or when re-potting, gently rinse off soil and root debris. Avoid sharp tools. You can reuse for several seasons, but inspect stitching and fabric for wear or thinning.

Great purchase
Size: 40 Ounces, Color: Rose Quartz 2.0
I was a Stanley skeptic. I couldn’t understand what the big deal was or why the internet was freaking out. I saw the video of the Stanley cup surviving the car fire (and I think the ice was still inside). So I tried it. I drink SO much more water now! I love decorating my Stanley with all the fun accessories and it holds a nice amount of water. It feels durable and good quality. I’ve had my Stanley for a year now and I’m even considering getting another so I can have one while the other is being washed. They are easy to clean as well because of the metal inside. There are two issues I’ve had since I got the Stanley cup. Once it was dropped, and the lid broke. Easy to buy more so not the biggest issue. The cup survived the fall just fine, not a mark on it. The other issue I keep having is my lid gets stuck and becomes hard for me to open sometimes. I have a bad thumb and wrist so often I have to have my spouse open it for me. It keeps my water cold all day. If I put ice in before I go to sleep it’s still cold in the morning. I love these cups and would recommend them to anyone looking to drink more water. If you like your water bottle you will drink more water and want to bring it with you.

Very strong and cute tumbler
Size: 40 Ounces, Color: Rose Quartz 2.0, Size: 40 Ounces, Color: Rose Quartz 2.0
Great quencher to get. I got this for my self and I love it so much. It's super cute and the color I got is a light soft pink. The size is big which is great since I like having enough coffee to last me all day. It keeps my drinks cold and warm or what ever temperature it is for a good amount of time which is great for anyone who is out for long periods of time. The quality overall is very good. The handle is big, comfortable and easy to grip and the quencher fits perfectly on my gym bag. Only downside is that it did get a smudge on it after I removed the paper that it had on the bottom. I tried removing the smudge it feels sticky like glue but it didnt get removed so I had to put a sticker over it to cover it up.

Great Water Bottle!
Color: Off Road, Size: 30 Ounces
I was looking for an insulated water bottle that would actually fit in a standard cup holder. I decided to try the Owala FreeSip Sway Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle. Upon receiving it, I noticed that it felt solid in my hand. The mechanism worked very smoothly with a simple button press opening the lid. Once open, you can choose to either use the included straw or tip the bottle and drink from the chug spout. In addition to it fitting in my cup holder, I needed it to be leak proof. This bottle is leak proof, and the spout can be locked by engaging a lock in the back. The rugged flip handle is also a convenient way to carry the Owala when it's not in the water bottle holder on my backpack. I hand wash the body of the bottle, but the top disassembles easily and can go right in the dishwasher when I want a deep cleaning. The bottle has a wide opening, so it is very easy to clean the inside. This has quickly become my favorite water bottle due to its ease of cleaning, good insulation, ability to fit in my cup holder, solid construction and materials, and the option of using the straw or chug spout. I have the 30 ounce bottle, but I am going to be picking up a 40 ouncer also. You won't regret purchasing one! I have used the bottle for a couple of weeks now, and here are my observations: It has gone on two camping trips, and it has proven to be durable. I have placed the Owala on its side on my passenger seat (just to test it...it fits perfectly in my car's cup holder!). It did not leak a single drop on a long road trip. On my camping trip, the water in the bottle was still ice cold the next morning, so it keeps cold beverages very cold!

The Perfect Bottle
Color: Dreamy Field, Size: 40 Ounces
I do not leave reviews, but I had to for this. This is the PERFECT water bottle. It has a handle, it's leak-proof, with a lock, so you don't have to worry when your baby decides to play with the bottle and tips it over -- there won't be a spill! Straw and sip option are perfect and I love that the straw is inside the cup so I don't have to worry about my kids hurting themselves when they drink from the cup. 40 oz is a great size, holds a lot of water but tapered bottom perfectly fits in the cup holder. So easy to use, my 4 year old has no issues. Cleaning takes 3 minutes. I recommend to absolutely everyone.
