Peony seeds for the garden that has decided it deserves better than the garden centre allows. Peonies from seed take 2-3 years to bloom. They then bloom for decades. The mathematics eventually work in everyone's favour.

Peony is the garden perennial that takes years from seed to first bloom and then produces for decades without complaint. Each packet is hermetically vacuum-sealed -- removing the oxygen that causes standard paper seed packets to lose germination viability within approximately one year. State law requires a 3-year viability label on sealed packaging. NASA research on hermetic seed storage indicates viability of up to 10 years under proper conditions. Every packet is non-GMO and germination-tested at independent third-party labs before it earns its Japanese woodblock print artwork.

How to Grow Peony from Seed

Sowing and Germination

Requires warm-cold stratification. Germination can take 6 months to 2 years. Patience essential.

Care and Harvest

Long-lived perennial. Blooms in year 2-3. Once established, produces for decades.

Why Vacuum-Sealed Seeds Last Longer

Standard paper seed packets are permeable to oxygen and moisture -- the two primary causes of seed degradation. Most paper-packaged seeds begin losing germination viability after approximately one year, contributing to significant garden-industry waste: packets purchased, not planted, expired, discarded. Shido Seeds are hermetically vacuum-sealed. The packet does not expire quietly in a drawer. It waits.

About the Packaging

Every Shido seed packet is illustrated in the style of Japanese 1910s woodblock printing -- designed and drawn in-house by Chive, the Toronto ceramics studio that has been exhibiting at the Chelsea Flower Show in London every year and does not, as a matter of principle, sell to big-box retailers. Customers collect the packets as a series. This was not the original plan.

Great chewy for my dogs
My 3 dogs love these already. I smeared peanut butter on one side and passed them out. My 2 that aren't crazy active or aggressive chewers enjoyed the PB, then were done for now. Energizer bunny dog has now claimed all 3 and is alternating which one she chews on. Great buy for keeping them, especially her occupied.

Would not buy again
My dog loves chew toys and was very excited when I opened the package. She played with it for about 10 minutes and now she wont touch it. It does seem very durable as she chewed on it and there was little damage.

Long lasting, not super appealing to my dogs.
Objective Data: I have two 50 pound dogs; a 10mos goldendoodle and a 7yo viszla. The puppy is a moderate chewer, the senior dog takes chewing in binges. He will occasionally get something and work it over for awhile and then not seek out anything to chew for a couple of days. Initially these went over well, but neither of my dogs pursue these much after a few weeks. The puppy will occasionally bring one over to briefly chew laying at my feet. Even with the initial, enthusiastic chewing of "new" toys these are still very intact!! These are going to last such a long time. **CAUTION** if you have beige carpet I don't recommend these toys for your home. They blend in to the color of our carpet and I cannot tell you how many times I have rolled my ankle or stubbed my toe kicking one across a dim/dark room. I would rather walk barefoot through a minefield of legos.

Keeps my dog busy
My dog has so much fun getting peanut butter out of this chew! It has small holes so it makes them put a little more effort than a typical chew. I would say it keeps them occupied for at least 15-20 minutes and they get pretty tired after. I think it's a good size for my medium dog. One thing i wish they did was making it with a silicone rather than nylon. It does get chewed off and I don't like the fact that they are ingesting them. All in all it's a great design to keep than busy.
