About Variegated String of Pearls / Senecio rowleyanus (4 inch)
Native to South Africa, Senecio rowleyanus has slender stems with green-bean shaped leaves that resemble strings of green pearls, and white flowers at the end of the vines, which is why it is often referred to as the "pearl necklace" or "pearl plant".
How to care for Senecio rowleyanus (4 inch)
Sun/Temperature: Senecio rowleyanus thrives in partially shaded areas with filtered sunlight. It's crucial to provide adequate shade when grown outdoors to prevent dehydration. This dehydration is a common issue encountered during the planting process of this variety.
Soil/Watering: Choose a well-drained soil specialized for succulents and moderate watering to ensure that the roots are not bothered by waterlogging. Senecio rowleyanus is relatively drought tolerant, but excessive drying needs to be avoided, especially during hot, dry seasons.
Pot: For its trailing nature, consider using a hanging basket in addition to pots of moderate depth with drainage holes. This will accommodate its root system and allow for healthy growth by providing ample aeration and drainage.
Toxicity: Senecio rowleyanus has slight toxicity, so it should be kept away from children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion. Although its toxicity is low, caution should still be exercised.
