Product Name: Sencor
Technical Name: Metribuzin 70% WP
Product Type: Herbicide
Brand Name: Bayer
Product Overview:
Sencor is a selective systemic herbicide containing Metribuzin 70% WP, designed to control a broad spectrum of grasses and broadleaf weeds. It works via both pre-emergence and early post-emergence applications. Major crops labelled are wheat, potato, tomato, soybean, and sugarcane. It is effective vs. hard-to-kill weeds (e.g. Phalaris minor) and is economical with low dosage and minimal residual effect on following crops.
Summary:
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Active Ingredient | Metribuzin 70% (Wettable Powder) |
| Mode of Action | Systemic herbicide; absorbed via roots and leaves; inhibits photosynthesis; HRAC group C1 |
| Crops Labelled | Wheat; Potato; Tomato; Soybean; Sugarcane |
| Weeds Controlled | Broadleaf and grass weeds including Phalaris minor, Chenopodium album, Trianthema, Amaranthus viridis, Cynodon dactylon, Cyperus rotundus, etc. |
| Application Timing | Pre‐emergence; Early post-emergence (weeds small) |
| Recommended Rates | Example: • Wheat: ~0.25-0.30 kg/ha • Soybean: ~0.5-0.75 kg/ha • Potato: ~0.75 kg/ha • Sugarcane: ~1.5-3.0 kg/ha depending on weed stage and soil condition |
| Water Volume / Sprayer Setup | ~500-1000 L water per hectare; use flat fan nozzle; good spray coverage critical |
| Waiting Period / PHI | Crop dependent: wheat ~120 days; others ~30-60 days depending on crop and local regulations. |
Benefits:
- Broad-spectrum weed control- Controls a wide range of both grasses and broadleaf weeds.
- Effective on resistant weeds- Particularly useful against Phalaris minor (a major resistant grass weed) and others that have developed resistance to other herbicides.
- Dual timing pre and post-emergence use- Can be applied before weeds emerge (pre-emergence) or early after weeds emerge (post-emergence), giving flexibility.
- Systemic action (via roots & leaves)- Absorbed both through roots and leaves, moves within the weed to growing parts, which helps in better kill.
- Economical / low dose required- Because it’s effective at relatively low application rates, it’s cost-efficient.
- No long-term residual effect on subsequent crops- After its effect, succeeding crops are generally safe; minimal carryover risk.
-
Crop safety- Safe for the labelled crops like wheat, soybean, potato, tomato, sugarcane when used as per directions.
