This planter and saucer are crafted using both traditional and modern techniques of Mashiko ware (Mashiko yaki, 益子焼) from Japan.
This planter features a small drainage hole at the bottom to prevent excess water buildup and reduce the risk of root rot. The matching saucer catches any drained water, making it perfect for mini indoor plants. Its subtle design complements any interior decor.
The production of Mashiko ware blends machine precision with human craftsmanship, ensuring consistency while retaining unique, hand-crafted qualities. Machines shape the pieces, while artisans add personal touches, like applying traditional glazes. These glazes, such as the white one made from rice husk ash, are crafted from natural, locally sourced ingredients. This approach preserves Mashiko ware’s cultural heritage while embracing modern production methods.
Each piece is handmade, with slight variations in shape, color, and glaze due to the artisanal process.
