Summary: A luxurious hybrid combining the best of its parents—deep velvety leaves with striking veins and elegant elongation. In XS baby size (P3, H10), it’s the perfect rare aroid to grow alongside you in your European home.
✨ Why You'll Love the Philodendron ‘Splendid’
- Stunning hybrid of verrucosum × melanochrysum with velvety foliage
- Rich green leaves with bright, contrasting veins
- XS baby size (P3 pot, approx. 10 cm height) ideal for small spaces
- Climbing habit—perfect for moss poles and vertical displays
- A must-have collector’s plant for indoor jungles in Germany and across Europe
🌞 Light & Placement
- Prefers bright, indirect light for optimal growth and leaf development
- Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage delicate velvety leaves
- Thrives near east- or west-facing windows
- Can adapt to medium light but may grow slower
💧 Water & Humidity
- Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged
- Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil dries out
- Prefers higher humidity (60%+) for best leaf texture and size
- Ideal for humid rooms or near a humidifier, especially in winter
🪴 Soil & Potting
- Use a chunky, airy aroid mix with bark, perlite, and soil
- Excellent drainage is essential to prevent root rot
- Repot once roots outgrow the pot
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
- Not pet-safe
- Contains calcium oxalate crystals—keep away from pets and children
🌱 Growth & Propagation
- Climbing Philodendron that develops larger, elongated leaves with maturity
- Benefits from support such as a moss pole for optimal growth
- Propagation via stem cuttings with nodes once mature
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
- Active growth during spring and summer months
- Reduce watering slightly in winter
- Fertilize monthly during growing season with diluted liquid fertilizer
- Thrives in temperatures between 18–27°C—perfect for European indoor conditions
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering
- Brown edges can be caused by low humidity
- Velvety leaves may attract spider mites in dry air
- Slow growth often linked to insufficient light or nutrients
