Senecio crassissimus ‘Lavender Steps’
Botanical Name: Senecio crassissimus
The Senecio crassissimus, often called Lavender Steps, is a striking upright succulent known for its powdery lavender-gray leaves and vertical, architectural growth habit. Each leaf stands neatly stacked in opposite pairs along the stem, edged with a subtle purple margin that deepens in bright light.
Native to Madagascar, this drought-tolerant beauty thrives on sunshine and minimal care. Its sculptural form and soft pastel tones make it perfect for sunny windowsills, succulent arrangements, or modern minimalist décor.
How to Keep it Happy:
-
Light: Full sun to bright, indirect light; stronger light brings out deeper purple tones.
-
Water: Allow soil to dry completely between waterings; overwatering can cause rot.
-
Soil: Fast-draining cactus or succulent mix. Growing in Happy Houseplant Haven's "The Succulent Solution" Premium Potting Mix
-
Humidity: Prefers dry air with good airflow.
-
Temperature: 60–85°F (USDA Zones 10–11).
-
Toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and small animals.
