Playful and fascinating, Mimosa pudica—commonly known as the Sensitive Plant or Shy Plant—folds its feathery leaves inward when touched or shaken. This reaction is quick and captivating, making it a favourite among kids and curious plant lovers. It grows into a soft, bushy shape with delicate pink pom-pom flowers in summer.
Plant Care
Light: Loves bright, indirect light or gentle morning sun. An east-facing windowsill is ideal. Avoid harsh midday rays that can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Never let it fully dry out, especially in warm weather. Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Temperature: Thrives in 18–26°C. Keep away from draughts and protect from cold—never let it drop below 13°C.
Potting: Our A Sandy Loam mix is ideal—light, moisture-retentive, and free-draining, perfect for sensitive roots.
Hot tips: Responds to touch and vibration, but don’t over-handle—frequent touching can weaken the plant. Flowers appear in warm, bright conditions. This plant may go dormant in winter or after flowering—reduce watering and be patient; it may bounce back in spring.
Pet Friendly: No
