It has stalky stems and long, green leaves with light-yellow/light-green stripes running through them. It is an easy-to-grow houseplant that requires little maintenance (and even puts up with neglect), making it a great choice for beginners. Although originally from Africa, the mass cane is popular throughout many homes and offices in the U.S. and the U.K. because it is a low-maintenance beauty. For those who are lucky enough, the corn plant may even produce clusters of fragrant white flowers, though this is very rare. Growing the dracaena as indoor plants using different cane lengths, with each cane having sprouted a new head or heads of foliage, makes Dracaena fragrans excellent as a tall indoor specimen. Like all plants, the corn plant produces oxygen and makes the air in your home healthier for all of your family. However, the corn plant is especially good for improving air quality, as it also absorbs toxins. The NASA Clean Air Study found that Dracaena plants remove toxic substances from the air, including formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, and trichloroethylene The corn plant is slow growing, so it does not need frequent pruning or maintenance. The slow growth also means it will act as an ornament in your home, happily filling a space where it can remain for some time without becoming too big for the area.- Mass cane (Dracaena fragrans "Massangeana" or Dracaena fragrans) is also known as "corn plant" and is one of several popular varieties of Dracaena, including Dracaena lisa, Dracaena marginata, and Dracaena compacta. Great children’s book
Cute little story. Goes with my daughter’s kindergarten curriculum which is why I bought. Has so many options for crafts and activities that can go with it-colors, seasons, poetry.

It's a really nice story about how we all have different ways of ...
A new acquaintance recently introduced me to "Frederick," a charming, very short children's picture book about a family of field mice who are preparing for the winter. One of them, a young mouse named Frederick, does not do much work and appears to be shirking his responsibilities. Frederick explains to his skeptical family that he IS working by quietly gathering imaginary sun rays for the cold winter days to come.
The book ends with the mice experiencing a tough winter, and then being inspired to carry on by a poem Frederick has created that grew out of his meditations when his family members thought he was being lazy. It's a really nice story about how we all have different ways of making contributions, and that important work is not always readily visible, especially creative endeavors.
The book also has some exercises for children, including one that guides a participant into writing a poem. If you read this story to a child and then make a poem together, it'll make a sweet project! A few of the words in the story are a bit advanced for young children, which offers a nice vocabulary building opportunity and does not detract from the story.
What I like best about "Frederick" is that it acknowledges that we humans are not all the same, and that we need our different talents and personalities to "make it through the winter." It might be especially nice to share with that child in your life who "marches to the beat of a different drummer."
