Trachyandra tortilis is a unique and captivating houseplant, prized for its distinctive spiral leaves and sculptural shapes. It adds an exotic and artistic touch to any interior space, offering a natural and intriguing aesthetic.
Origin: Trachyandra tortilis is native to arid regions of southern Africa, particularly Namibia and South Africa, where it often grows on rocky and sandy soils.
Growth: Trachyandra tortilis is slow growing, forming spiral rosettes of leaves that can reach approximately 15 to 20 cm in height. Its leaves are dark green and twisted, creating a striking visual effect.
Flowers: Produces small white or pinkish flowers on thin flower stalks, but they are rarely visible in indoor cultivation. Flowers appear mainly in winter and early spring.
Light: Prefers bright indirect light or intense artificial light. Partial sunlight promotes optimal growth without risk of leaf burn.
Watering: Requires moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. Tolerates periods of drought well.
Substrate: Use a well-draining potting soil. A mixture of cactus potting soil and perlite is ideal for improving drainage.
Toxicity: Trachyandra tortilis is non-toxic, making it safe for pets and children.
